How do notable individuals use social media?

It is great for notable individuals to use social media not only for promotional use but also for extension access to reach normal people. Celebrities use social media to make connections to ordinary people. Some of them would post their thoughts upon some specific questions and other would just share their life. However, a positive and attractive digital identity is also significant for notable individuals. A single word could ruin a person. It is essential to build and keep a good digital identity and to be aware of the words they say. By saying that I mean there should not be any discrimination or breach of law in their words.

What are the benefits of being in the public eye and having a PLN?

For those who want to gain fame and a good reputation, the best way to achieve that is to be in the public eye and have a PLN. By doing that, they can make a fortune while attaining knowledge from their PLN. In addition, being in the public eye can help supervise people’s words and make the community more friendly.

Building community with online tools provided by the employer can be limiting, what are the perceived
restrictions and benefits?

A community built by the employer could have several restrictions but there are also some benefits. As it is under the employer’s supervision, almost every employee would join the community. However, this could lead to a restriction that people will not feel free to express their ideas and feel restricted to say whatever they want to say. And days after, this community could be dead as nobody would be willing to throw a discussion in it.

Delivering information in a connected society requires verifiable resources, how to build a PLN to rely on?

To build a reliable PLN, we can share some of our achievements or learning and working progress on social media. Also, sharing your photo with some celebrities in the area could make your page more trustworthy. After modifying your own page, it is time to find other’s reliable pages to build your PLN to rely on. For example, when you find someone’s words interesting in a forum, you can go to their page to find out if they are the person that can help you in some areas, then decide whether to put them into your PLN.

How do those, who are veteran storytellers, minimize risk in sharing misinformation?

For experienced storytellers, they would make thorough research to have a general understanding of the topic they are going to talk about. Or they can ask professionals in their PLN for some advice or ask for some help in polishing drafts. To make the speech more convincing, they would invite someone expert in this area from their PLN to give a short talk just like my instructor for this course Mr. Miller did.
